Wooden Bunk Beds or Metal Bunk Beds: Which one is the Best Option?

Bunk bed frames come in mostly two types; wooden and metal. Both have their own building processes, costs and manufacturers. If you are in market for a new bunk bed, a metal frame can look appealing because of their supposed durability, but wooden frame may look enticing at the same time due to their lower costs. So which one should you get?

Real Wood Bunk Beds:

These are beds with wooden frames. Poplar is the most common and cost-effective wood variant used to build wooden bunk beds. Maple and Cherry wood is also used sometimes, but they are generally more expensive and used for mid to high-end bunk beds.

Why Should You Get a Wooden Bunk Bed: Wooden beds are much more sturdy than metal and look more attractive than the goth-style of metal framed bunk beds. They also have many customization options, are easier to disassemble and move around, and require less maintenance.

Why Should You Avoid a Metal Bed: If you are planning on getting something that is expected to last 10+ years, then metal is probably not the best idea. There is the possibility of rusting and sharp edges, which could cause serious injury.

Metal Bunk Beds:

These are beds with metal frames. The frames are built with soft metal which makes them less durable and don’t have the longevity that wood bunk beds have.

Why Would You Get a Metal Bunk Bed: Metal bunk beds are less expensive than wooden bunk beds due to the material being used is manufactured by the ton in warehouses. However, less money isn’t always better. You end replacing it several times over the years.

Why Should You  Avoid a Metal Bed: Metal beds are poorly crafted, and are mostly welded together, meaning they are a nightmare to move around or transport. Plus, they don’t have a wide variety of colors or customization options unlike wooden beds. Repairing metal beds is also a big issue with all the welded components, which may end up costing as much as buying a new wooden bed.
